Amazon Selling — Stuck at Identity Verification and how to pass it!
If you are stuck with Amazon seller identity issues, I hope this article helps you in some style. You can read my personal story, or skip correct down to the steps and tips. (i'grand trying to setup as Private seller)
Story
So starting from end September 2018 (gasp did I accept that long?), I decided to sign up as an individual seller on Amazon platform. I was new on the platform and did not want sales pressure, and then I idea the individual seller choice was a good deal, selling based on per item sale commission rather than a monthly fee. Amazon existence a well established and international platform felt like a great choice.
I looked up on google, and sure enough easily found the landing page. Simply a note here that led to the get-go of confusion #one.

You have to look for this niggling line at the bottom for Individual signup. Seems they are not trying to promote this eh?
Confusion #one No uncomplicated way to switch plans during sign up process
And then the issue of this is, if you lot clicked on the bill of fare button hoping for a choice between the plans, its not going to be good. The default seems to be to get you on the Pro subscription plan, and once yous are stuck in that flow, it seems yous will be stuck for good on that electronic mail address you signed up with.
What? I have not even completed the sign up procedure and… you're basically telling me that I am stuck? The 2 alternatives presented to me are, to proceed as pro seller, and then downgrade dorsum to individual seller, and claim back a refund on the first month charge. OR, to apply some other email address.
Call back! Clear your browser cache and cookies if yous are trying the 2nd pick. On reflection, office of my frustrations was that I basically disregarded this instruction in the email, and ended up initiating a handful of different electronic mail addresses all stuck mid-way of the sign upward process under the Pro subscription flow. I'thou normally quite uptight over clearing up my one-half-ass accounts all over the internet, but this process left me irritated enough that well, forget it. (I ended upwardly with the first option, trying to downgrade my pro account to Private after completing the sign up process, but that leads me to confusion #2.)
Confusion #ii Frustrating identity verification process
Amazon is a giant tech company. And therefore I believe most if not all of their transmission processes are automatic by machines, including this seller identity verification process. But this turns out to be really a contentious bug. I was having enough problem getting verified, and after quite a few unsucecssful attempts that I basically procrastinated for a few months till I succeeded recently this March 2019. Amongst the few seller platforms I am using, none ever gave me that much trouble.
At that place are a lot of confusion and requests for aid on Amazon seller forums. And the replies from Amazon support certain is not helping with their generic replies. Non sure if the to a higher place email answer is fifty-fifty human, but I suppose their verification engine is a black box to us. Below I provide some things I accept tried. Simply because its proprietary and due so many things that I have tried, I will never know which activity was causal to passing the verification. Anyhow its my personal take which I judge yous could endeavour.
Things to Try
Try uploading pdf files instead? No screenshots. I was already praying for verification to only work at this signal. I tried and so many things, and although Amazon upload instructions says image files are accepted, I saw youtube video somewhere stating to use pdf instead. Therefore I converted my identity and credit card statement images to pdf before upload. Also, "no screenshots" is a tricky i. My banking company statements are basically paperless these days, and I tried uploading an e-copy. I believe this may as well get rejected every bit I suspect the verification engine confuses these with screenshots. Seems they desire either scanned or photographs. I read some people having trouble with scanned copies too, which I recall is as well possible as scanners present are really good and look like screenshots.
All details should be exact and consistent with your uploaded files. Proper noun, Address, basically just all fields. I changed my accost to exactly what was shown in my credit carte du jour statement. Rather than just typing my own version of information technology, downwardly to every # and . And there is one biggie here. I think the verification gets confused with first and last names. Its not that clear for Asians like me, as I have a Chinese and an English name. My identity bill of fare shows my last name (chinese name in english characters), and so my get-go name (my english language name). Luckily Amazon tipped me off on this one, and suggested a switch of my start and final name via a validation message actualization near the proper noun field. Improve to follow on this ane whether a not you lot agree to it. The concluding time I ignored it, the dreaded "we will go back to yous in two–3 business organisation days" message appeared. Seems their image algo is working hither.
Make sure uploaded pictures are whole and clear. This is an obvious i. In color, skilful lighting, precipitous contrasts. I'grand not sure if cropping the images make a departure. Simply I am paranoid at this point. I submitted the motion picture of the whole A4 size credit carte du jour argument, not merely a portion of the paper.
Finally, I'grand offically an Individual seller on Amazon, excited to put up my beginning listing. I promptly received a first billing from Amazon as a Pro seller. What?? This dislocated me as well, I remember selecting "individual" somewhere in the form? But I'yard basically tired at this bespeak and just happy to be accustomed subsequently this "ordeal". I promptly downgraded the account and still hoping to receive the refund from Amazon. Information technology seems hard to detect an actual back up electronic mail to contact them on this, I go along getting sent to the automated FAQ. Merely I guess enough lament right now.
